Cats. Dogs. The fresh outdoors. Giving back to the local community. There’s few things in life that can make a person feel happier than the combination of those four things. Ben Ure, Oltco Plymouth’s Director, learnt that first hand when he recently spent the day volunteering at local Plymouth based charity, Gables Farm.
Gables Farm is a non-euthanasia rescue and rehoming centre that has been helping the region’s unwanted and abandoned dogs and cats since 1907. Fast forward over 120 years and the staff and volunteers now care for approximately 1,000 furry friends every year. On a daily basis, the team care for around 80 dogs and over 100 cats!
Without the generosity of volunteers, and financial donations, Gables Farm would not be able to rehome animals all over Devon, Somerset, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
With previous experience in carpentry and with a range of practical skills, Ben spent the day working alongside Gables Farm’s Maintenance Assistant, Matt, carrying out a range of jobs including clearing rubbish and brambles and of course walking some of the four-legged residents, including the gorgeous Princess Leia.
