Overview

Oltco Harrogate installed 500m² of Recycle Bound pathways in the traditional blend, Crantock, for RHS Garden Harlow Carr.

The Brief

Situated in the Yorkshire countryside, the gardens receive around 450,000 visitors a year. Maintenance works had been taking place on site due to general wear and tear and large amounts of rain and snowfall, particularly to the previous pathways.

Sustainability is a core value for Harlow Carr, so it was important that the new surface aligned with these values in some way whilst also being durable and hard-wearing.

Our Solution

Oltco Harrogate installed its award-winning Recycle Bound product as this fit the brief perfectly.

Recycle Bound is a solution which is made utilising a mix of stone and aggregates as well as recycled waste plastic already in circulation such as, straws, drink bottles and food packaging.

Recycle Bound is the strongest system that Oltco has ever tested and ensures that the new pathways are hard-wearing and able to withstand large amounts of footfall. In addition, it also features porous and anti-slip properties to provide heightened safety.

Oltco Harrogate recycled the equivalent of 1.5 million plastic straws at Harlow Carr.

Sustainability is a core value for Harlow Carr and as an educational charity, we are passionate about educating our visitors on this. Oltco Harrogate’s sustainable product offering aligned perfectly with our values and Recycle Bound was also an attractive and suitable solution to transform our pathways. It’s a great feeling knowing that our new pathways have recycled the equivalent of 1.5 million plastic straws. The new pathways have helped to transform the landscape and we’re excited for our visitors to experience this.
